Pig Iron

ATIBIR INDUSTRIES CO. LTD has established blast furnace with capacity of 600,000 tpa. One of the largest manufacturers of steel through secondary route in Eastern India, fulfilling the steel needs of almost industry in this  region.

Pig iron is a form of iron that is produced by melting iron ore along with charcoal and limestone under very high pressure.

Pig iron is an intermediate product of the iron industry. Pig iron has a very high carbon content, typically 3.5–4.5%, along with silica and other constituents of dross, which makes it very brittle, and not useful directly as a material except for limited applications. Pig iron is made by smelting iron ore into a transportable ingot of impure high carbon-content iron in a blast furnace as an ingredient for further processing steps

Thus it is brittle and unstable that can’t be used in this form. However, it is refined through further melting and blending to wrought iron and steel which are together most widely used materials on earth.
